Dezart Performs is currently seeking plays for their Sixth Annual Play Reading Series.

Dezart Performs is a professional non-profit theatre company in Palm Springs dedicated to bringing new and provocative works for the stage to the Coachella Valley.

Four to seven plays will be chosen for the Annual Play Reading Series, a two-weekend festival in downtown Palm Springs. All submissions are reviewed by a 12-member committee of entertainment professionals and members of the theatre community.

The Sixth Annual Play Reading Series will be held at the Palm Springs Woman's Club in Palm Springs, California April 11-19, 2014. Audience members are asked to vote for their favorite play of the Play Reading Series. The winner of the series, named "Audience Favorite," will be fully produced and staged in the fall of 2014 as part of Dezart Performs' 2014-15 Season.

All submissions must be postmarked or e-mailed by Friday, October 11, 2013.

Submission Guidelines

• Plays can be any length with no more than eight characters; Character doubling to exceed that limit is not permitted. No one-person shows.
• Production elements must be kept to a minimum, one setting preferred and no special technical requirements. No musicals.
• Plays previously considered for the Annual Play Reading Series will not be accepted.
• Plays must not have been previously produced in the Coachella Valley in either a full production or reading.
• Submissions are limited to two plays per playwright. An entry fee is required for each play submitted.
• All submissions must include a cover page with:
• Play Title
• Genre
• Format (one-act, full-length, etc.)
• A synopsis of the play (250 words max)
• Cast requirements
• Playwright's name
• Contact information including e-mail, postal mailing address and phone number
• Playwrights may submit by e-mail or postal mail:
• One PDF for e-mailed submissions, $10.00 entry fee to be paid online prior to e-mailing PDF. One submission per e-mail.
• Two copies of the script required via postal mail, $6.00 entry fee by check or money order payable to Dezart Performs.
• Playwrights are encouraged to submit your best work as plays previously submitted will not be considered again.
• Submissions must be postmarked or e-mailed by Friday, October 11, 2013.
• Entry Fees are to cover the costs of printing and distributing script copies to our reading committee.

A. ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION - $10 per play

Electronic submissions must be paid using the PayPal "Pay Now" button to the left. Following payment confirmation, e-mail script and cover letter in PDF format to playsubmissions@dezartperforms.com and include the Receipt No. from your PayPal transaction.

B. POSTAL SUBMISSION - $6 per play
